Afrikaans

Afrikaans has about ten million or so speakers and is mainly spoken in South Africa with Afrikaans speaking minorities in Namibia and Zimbabwe. (It is also frequently heard in London).

Afrikaans originated from 17th century Dutch, but unlike Dutch has no gender. There are no masculine or feminine articles as in French or Spanish. 'Die' is the and 'n' is a for both masculine and feminie.

So die moeder and die vader for the mother and the father, whereas in Spanish, la madre and el padre.
